I love company. I love when the phone rings and someone is telling me they want to come visit. I love helping plan the trip. I love every second they are here. But, I absolutely HATE when I have to say goodbye.
Moving to Maryland was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make. It meant leaving my home, my family, my friends – everything "comfortable." It's been over 10 years since Mike drove the Budget van with all of my belongings down from Michigan while I slept in the passenger seat. You would think I'd be used to being so far from everyone by now, but I'm not.
It stinks that I'm not able to attend the smaller family functions, or attend concerts with my girlfriends, or have lunch with my cousin, or give my best friend a hug when she needs one. I feel like I miss out on so many little things and that those I love miss out on just as many things when it comes to my babies. Unfortunately when we do see our friends and family, it's not for very long. We're pulled in so many different directions and want to see everyone in what time we have that it seems like we only get a few minutes with each person. Thankfully my in-laws are amazing and are such a HUGE part of our kids' lives...as well as my brother-in-law and his family and my sister-in-law and her family (although we're still trying to get them to move back to Maryland). It makes it easier and I cannot thank them enough.
But, I digressed...sorry. Back to company. Any time someone visits, it's wonderful. We don't have to share our time with anyone else and have the opportunity to really catchup and spend time together. I love when our guest bedroom isn't empty, and Miles loves it too. So, when my old co-worker and dear friend said she couldn't wait any longer to meet Melina, well I didn't stop her or talk her out of hoping on a plane.
Our kids were spoiled rotten by Candis and her husband, Lyndon. I don't think Melina went one minute without being wrapped in their arms or covered in kisses the entire time they were here. And I think Miles and Candis read every book he has in his room (and he has a small library in there). Miles is already planning our next vacation and Texas has been added to his list of stops.
