And, He's Off...

After nearly four weeks of treasure hunting (also known as garage saling), we have a pint size bicycle in our garage. Miles was an extremely good sport. For the last month, he woke up every Saturday morning ready to venture out for a few hours to find a bike. Miles never got discouraged even after 8+ hours of searching.

Our determination paid off when a couple had a practically new looking Diego bike sitting in the "for sale" items. Miles hopped on it and it was the perfect size. I asked the price and she said "FREE" (score!), she then proceeded to tell me the back wheel was bent and the front tire wouldn't hold air. I said no problem and that my husband used to work at a bike shop...I was certain Mike could fix it.

Mike took one look and said it definitely needed a new back wheel ($25-$40) and a new front tube ($6). Fortunately, we had a few options – my uncle volunteers at a bike shop in Detroit and could pick up the wheels for free (awesome!) or we could buy a used bike from a man we met at another yard sale but didn't have the bike with him ($20). Mike opted to purchase the bike out here and use it for parts since Miles had already been so incredibly patient.

After about an hour of swapping pieces from one bike to another, Mike screwed in the last bolt and Miles hopped on. He pedaled around the court on his "new" bike without any problems. I didn't capture his first trip on camera, but here are a few videos from yesterday.
