Origin & Meaning of Miles

Mike and I have been asked why we chose Miles as our son's name. Honestly, we would have never thought of the name had my cousin Tricia not suggested it several months ago. There are several Miles' in the family tree on my dad's side, so we decided to throw it into the mix. Initially it wasn't one of our favorites; however, it slowly started to become our top pick with Elijah as a close second. While we were in the hospital we looked up the meanings for all of our picks (boys and girls) again and found out that Miles is also a form of Michael. We decided at that moment, Miles would be the name if the baby was a boy. Here are the details from a baby name website:

Origin: Latin / English
Meaning: Soldier / Uncertain, perhaps peaceful

It may also be a greatly altered pet form of Michael, which came to be associated with the Latin word 'miles' (soldier) because of the military attributes of the archangel Michael.

Obviously I love when names have real meaning, so what a great pick! :) Hope you're adjusting well to parenthood and the little guy is letting you sleep a bit.
