Q & A

First of all, thank you to everyone for your love and support. We are very blessed to have such wonderful family members and friends. Mike and I have had lots of questions, so I thought I'd take this time to answer as many as possible:

Q: How are you feeling?
A: Besides being completely exhausted, pretty good. I've had very little morning sickness and when I have, it's hit me at night (whoever gave morning sickness its name didn't know it could strike at any time). I've also had a lack of appetite but it's starting to come back. I'm hoping the fatigue will let up within the next couple weeks. My doctor said by the second trimester I should be feeling great. Only three more weeks!

Q: How did you tell Mike?
A: It was in the middle of the night. I had taken a test the morning before and saw a faint line and took another one that evening that came back negative. I woke up around 3 am to go to the bathroom and tested again...another faint line. I was pretty sure this meant I was pregnant. I wanted to wait until that evening because Mike had an observation at school; however, I couldn't fall back asleep. I rolled over and whispered, "Mike, I'm pregnant." It was the fastest I've ever seen him wake up.

However, I was prepared to tell him another way. I had purchased the book Oh, Baby the Places You'll Go, a Dr. Seuss book to be read while the baby is in utero. (It's a spin off of Oh, the Places You'll Go.) In it I wrote, "Since we began our journey into marriage with a book, I thought it was only fitting we start our journey into parenthood the same way." For those of you who didn't know, Mike proposed using a children's book he wrote. I gave him the book after blurting out the news.

Q: How did we tell our parents?
A: Unfortunately, my mom wasn't able to join us for Thanksgiving so we told her over the phone the day before. We did what we've done with a lot of you, we told her we created a blog and wanted her to take a look at it. The first thing she said was, "Seriously. Is this a joke?" She thought we were playing a very early April fool's joke on her.

As for my dad and Mike's parents, we told them at Thanksgiving dinner. For as long as I've been in the family, the Tedeschi's have had a tradition where we go around the dinner table and say what we are thankful for that year. Mike and I spent 45 minutes that morning trying to figure out what we were going to say and for some reason my in-laws didn't do it! We tried to get it started. Our two nephews and niece shared what they were thankful for and then I said something too. After I was finished, my father-in-law was getting up from the table so Mike said really fast, "I'm thankful Shannon's pregnant." Everyone was shocked and excited. My dad's response scared us a bit. We thought he was going to have a heart attack. He was quiet for at least five minutes (which for him is an eternity if he's not sleeping). Eventually he snapped out of it.

We were originally going to try and hold out until Christmas since we'd see everyone in person but after a lot of thought (and not knowing if I would have morning sickness that day), we decided on Thanksgiving. It was also the 10th anniversary of Mike's grandfather Roberts' death and we knew Nans was going to have this on her mind. Since Pops birthday was July 4th, we thought it was only fitting that we share the news on Thanksgiving.

Q: Do we know the sex of the baby?
A: No. It's too early.

Q: Are we going to find out the sex of the baby?
A: No. We're going to wait until the little bean is here.

Q: Have we thought about names?
A: No, not really. We're still trying to grasp the fact that we're having a baby. We have received several suggestions already and will share what we've received in a future post.

Let us know if there's anything we missed!
